Women In Work

In celebration of Women’s Month, my team and I planned, organized and executed a week-long in-person conference in New York for women-identifying students from around the world to attend workshops and keynotes led by women within different industries. I was co-director of the event, so I managed the team and worked directly with companies to design workshops and keynotes relevant for the students attending. We had around 40-50 students from around the world participate and collaborated with companies such as: Google, Big Spaceship, Thrive Global, Deloitte, Bloomberg, Nike & the United Nations.

WORKSHOPS

Nike .Swoosh
Introducing students to blockchain technology and how Nike is using it to both strengthen and engage with their community through virtual collections, immersive & interactive experiences, events and opportunities to design virtual creations.

Bloomberg
An afternoon spent introducing students to the different career paths they offer as well as several workshops and a walkthrough of their headquarters

Inside Out Project
A lovely, empowering workshop opening discussions about how we could all inspire change within our local communities
Learning
The first day of the conference started at Google where the CEO and I gave brief introductions and welcomed our students before our first keynote speaker from the Thrive Global foundation spoke of the trajectory of her career, experiencing burnout and how to live a healthy lifestyle between self-care and a successful career. Having planned the workshops and panels with Google, it was magical to see the students engage in meaningful conversations; from a workshop introducing AI to a diverse panel of amazing women talking about their experience within the tech industry, it was an inspiring beginning that set the tone for the rest of the conference.
Creating
My experience collaborating with Big Spaceship to design the workshops for our students was one of my favorites. After an introduction to the type of creative work they do, their work culture and their company values, students were placed into groups and given several client case studies to develop advertising and marketing strategies.
Networking
Ultimately, the best part was the fact that this entire conference was grounded in creating opportunities for students who wouldn't otherwise have them. Designed by students, for students in collaboration with industry professionals. I remain incredibly proud of my team-- we worked relentlessly for months to make opportunities like these more accessible.
